O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, How lovely are your branches! These mixed-media tags can be used to top a last-minute gift, or they can decorate Christmas cards, canvases, and more.

O Christmas Tree! Mixed-Media Tags Directions:

Cut a tall triangle out of watercolor paper or cardstock. Paint with Fresh Lime Dylusions paint, and while paint is still wet, stipple Cut Grass Dylusions paint on. Leave the surface of the paint uneven and messy. Set aside to dry.

Add strips of punchinella ribbon to tag and adhere with a thick layer of gel medium.

Paint entire tag with a generous layer of Vibrant Turquoise Dylusions paint and add smudges of Cut Grass, Fresh Lime, and Lemon Zest. Blend the smudges thoroughly into the bottom layer of paint. Sponge off some of the paint from the strips of punchinella ribbon so that the holes are still visible and raised from the design. Add a few dots with Fresh Lime paint. Leave the paint uneven and messy for a later step.

Paint an tree stump onto the tag with Dina Wakley’s Umber paint. Attach the tree shape with a thick layer of gel medium.

Add white texture paste to the edges of the tag, creating the appearance of snow. Apply with a palette knife, then smudge some of the clumps of texture paste toward the center of the tag with your finger. Let dry completely. Add a thin layer of black watercolor over the entire tag. Allow the watercolor to pool in the punchinella ribbon and the cracks and crevices of paint. This will add a nice distressing effect and also highlight the texture of the tag. Dab away any excess watercolor with a paper towel.

Outline tree with a Ranger Ink Fude Ball Pen.

Water down some of Dina Wakley’s Ruby paint and splatter across the tag.

Add a Tim Holtz Seasonal ChitChat Sticker to complete the tag.
