A Bouquet of Birthday Candles Project by Johanna Love

No reviews yet

Flowers make a beautiful gift, but they tend to wilt so quickly. This Papaya Art birthday tin has a gorgeous bouquet design that I feel proud to gift in place of a live bouquet. Fill the tin with a gift, or make your own birthday candles. And what a thrifty way to repurpose the last wilted blooms!

A Bouquet of Birthday Candles Project Directions:

Cover your work surface to protect it from wax and oil.

Pour 8 oz. of beeswax pellets into a tin. Add a 1/2 cup of orange granules, 60 drops total of Lemon and Sweet Orange essential oils, and the dried petals from your latest wilted blooms.

Place tin onto hot plate turned on medium-low. Gently stir ingredients with chopstick as the wax melts. **CAUTION: wax and hot plate are extremely hot and will burn you! Use oven mitts and stir very slowly!**

Once the wax is fully melted, turn off the hot plate. Use chopsticks to clear ingredients, and insert candle wicks into melted wax so they stand upright on bottom of tin.

Once the hot plate and tin are cool to touch, carefully transport the tin back onto your work surface with oven mitts to speed the cooling process if desired. **NOTE: Since these tins are not waterproof, a very small amount of wax may seep through the side seam and onto your hot plate and work surface, as mine did. It will not be noticeable nor affect the candle function once completed.**

While the wax is still transparent, add additional ingredients if desired. Keep in mind that once the wax begins to cool and become solid and opaque, you can no longer touch the wax without ruining the smooth texture.

Once the wax is completely cooled and solidified, trim wicks so they will fit under tin lid, and bring to your next birthday party.
