Tried & Tubed Project
Every year I make the same promise to myself: I’ll make this Christmas a handcrafted one! And every year I find myself wondering where the time went as I pull out my store-bought holiday decor, vowing that next year is the year. I’m proud to share that this year, I finally got a jump-start on my holiday crafting, and it was so easy!
Tried & Tubed Project Instructions
I have more test tubes than I know what to do with. They can be used to package so many things — bath salts, hot-chocolate mixes, to name a couple — that I always have some on hand. I knew they could easily be turned into ornaments with just a couple of supplies. Having seen and been inspired by some glittered rosebuds (they looked just like they were covered in snow!) I knew they would look perfect encased in glass. Wanting to experiment a little, I played around with simply dipping the rosebuds first in glue, then glitter, followed by just pouring a little glitter into the tube, and finally just leaving everything plain. I have to say the glitter-dipped buds are my favorite.
To finish the ornaments, I wrapped a bit of book text and jute around the top of the tubes. I then stapled a loop of twine to the cork to hold it in place and make it easy to hang. You could also use a screw eye. Finally, on a couple I added a little charm. Everything came together to add just the hint of romance I wanted on my tree this year.
