No Place Like Home Journal Project
Like many people, every few years I get the urge to spruce up my house a little and redecorate. Before I can execute my vision, however, I have to do my favorite part, which is gathering inspiration. While I continuously add ideas to a Pinterest board, there’s nothing quite like a physical journal to hold my thoughts and design concepts.
I recently felt compelled to do a little makeover on our living room to make it feel more cozy with the arrival of autumn. My first step was to start a journal where I could keep possible color palettes, textile ideas, and other inspiration. And, of course, I couldn’t leave the cover of the journal alone, so I decided to decorate it a bit.
First, I painted the journal cover with two layers of white acrylic paint, letting each layer dry in between. Next, I applied watercolors to the journal cover using a very wet paintbrush, and then dabbed the excess paint with a paper towel. When the cover was thoroughly dry, I tore some of my painted paper scraps into house shapes, and adhered them to the cover. Windows were cut out from cardstock and details were added with a pencil. To finish, I adhered words cut out from book text to the cover. I can’t wait to fill the journal with all of my ideas for my living room and am excited to see which ones come to fruition!
