Prims Softie Dolls Project

UPC:

A while back, we featured an Alice Art Girl Softie project in which I used a mini dress template from Ruth Rae’s book Layered Tattered and Stitched. Ruth’s work is always an inspiration to me; I have been wanting to try another mini dress project, so when I stumbled across these new mini hangers for the Shoppe, I jumped at the chance for an encore project.

Using fabric from old sheets, I cut out the dresses using the template from Ruth’s book. I stamped on the fabric in a random fashion using the script stamp image and grey StazOn Ink. With red thread in my sewing machine, I sewed the front and back of the dresses together, intentionally stitching the red thread on the outside instead of turning it inside out. This technique gives it more of a primitive appearance. I stitched around the dress twice, leaving the bottom of the dress open so that it can be stuffed prior to stitching the bottom closed.

To finish, simply add some simple embellishments to the dress if desired, I added a few mini pearl buttons. To decorate the hangers I sprayed them with a dark grey spray paint. Let the hangers dry for at least an hour or two. Add some simple clip art text to the center of the hanger. Hang your primitive softie on the hanger by using some clothespins or stitching some small loops of thread or twine onto the top of the dress sleeves and the loop onto the hanger.
