Iced Enamels Relique Lanyards by Johanna Love

No reviews yet

My mother has worked at the same hospital for my entire life, and I have never seen her without her plain, boring nylon lanyard for her keys and ID badge. When I saw these Ice Resin® bezels and enamels, I thought it was a great opportunity to upgrade my mom's obligatory neck-wear. Paired with some Prima Marketing trinkets, they transform her daily uniform into something she can really enjoy wearing.

Iced Enamels Relique Lanyards Tutorial:

To start, lay a silicone mat on a flat, sturdy, level surface, and put on protective gear. Once you’re ready, lightly scuff all surfaces of the pieces that you will be enameling with a sanding block. When everything is adequately distressed, add a layer of Iced Enamels® Medium using an angled paintbrush.

Next, sprinkle a thin layer of Iced Enamels® Relique Powder onto the medium, and then tap the excess power back into its container. Lay the pieces flat on your silicone mat, and gently heat with a heat tool until the powders melt into your desired finish. Remember to allow the pieces to cool before you pick them up.

To build layers and colors, paint more medium and sprinkle more powder onto your surfaces, and heat again.

While your pieces are cooling, wash the medium out of your brushes with water and soap, then mix one ounce of Ice Resin thoroughly per package instructions.

Add mica flakes, glitter, wire, and any other embellishments that you want to your bezels (I used Prima Marketing’s Vintage Trinkets Large Numbers and Vintage Trinkets Flowers), and then very slowly pour resin onto each. Also paint resin on the keys and any additional surfaces that were coated with enamel in order to protect and seal. Be sure you wipe up any resin drops immediately with tissue, and then leave all pieces to cure for at least 24 hours, per manufacturer’s instructions.

Finally, once everything is cured, attach velvet ribbon strips long enough to wear around the neck, wrist, or purse handle.
