You're the Bee's Knees Tote Bag Project
This week, we’re celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week with this stamped and stenciled tote bag. My mother is a teacher and carries her supplies to and from work in tote bags, so this seemed like the perfect gift to thank teachers for all the hard work they do. The bee motif was inspired by another project, the Mother’s Day Tag & Charm Project, and worked well with the sentiment that teachers are the “bee’s knees.”
This tote bag also uses stamped designs and Relique powder to create a wonderfully textured distressed finish.
We’d love to see what you are making. Share your artwork on Instagram using #StampingtonMade for a chance to be a featured artist on @stampington!
You’re the Bee’s Knees Tote Bag Directions:
Use a brayer to spread a thin layer of Dina Wakley Penny paint onto the Chicken Wire Stencil, and then use the stencil as a stamp to add a honeycomb look to the corners and edges of the canvas tote bag.
Arrange letter stamps on an acrylic block, then use a brayer to apply a thin layer of Iced Enamels Medium. Stamp onto the tote bag and immediately sprinkle with Tarnished Bronze Relique Powder. Dust off excess and heat set.
Repeat this process for each line of text.
With ordinary black ink, stamp Dina Wakley’s bees in the spaces around your text. Paint in body with Penny and Gilt mixed paint, then paint the wings with Finnabair’s Art Alchemy Opal Magic Yellow-Blue paint. Let dry.
Apply a thin layer of Iced Enamels Medium to bee stamp and stamp on top of your painted design. Sprinkle with Relique Powder and set with heat tool.
Sprinkle some Relique Powder over the whole bag and set with heat tool.
