For years I’ve wanted to try my hand at wood burning. I love the look of it, but I always felt a little intimidated by the process. Would I totally screw it up? Would I burn my fingers off? Recently more and more images of beautifully wood-burned items were filling up Pinterest and I realized it was time to take the leap.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I thought there was no better project to complete than placeholders. Imagine the delight on your guests’ faces when they arrive to dinner and find their very own wood-burned nametag? If it sounds scary, don’t worry. It couldn’t have been easier, and I’m happy to announce I didn’t burn myself!
These balsa wood tags were the perfect size to turn into placeholders. There are a few tricks to make burning the names into the tags a lot easier. One option is to use alphabet rubber stamps and lightly stamp the name on the tag; you can then go over it with the wood-burning tool. You can also find a font you like on your computer and print the names out at the desired size. Then, scribble a pencil on the back of the paper, place the paper on the tag, and lightly go over the computer-generated text. Once the name is transferred, go over the name with the tool. If you feel confident in your handwriting, you can also lightly write the desired name on the tag.
There were a few things I learned while creating these tags. First, practice on a spare piece of wood first. Wood burning is fairly simple, but it’s important to get a feel for how hard and long to press the tip on the wood. Second, when tracing the name start off using light pressure. You can go back over it to darken it.

Our subscriptions ship directly from our printer in Wisconsin. For this reason, we need to be notified of your change of address at least two months before the next issue comes out, or it will be sent to the address we had on file and provided to our printer at the time it was due.
How to Notify Us About Your Change of Address
- Email the following to customerservice@stampington.com:

- Your name and new address
- Your old address

Mail Forwarded by the Post Office
If you forward mail to your new address through the Post Office, it won't apply to periodicals/your magazine subscription unfortunately. Also, since mail forwarding only lasts for a short time-frame, we request that you still notify us of your address change to prevent any service interruption to your subscription.
Stampington & Company cannot be held responsible for replacing "lost" issues from your subscription, if we did not receive your change of address request at least two months prior to your next issue's release date.
Subscription issues should arrive within the first week of the month your publication is released. Please add up to two weeks for international delivery.
If your magazine has not arrived by the 20th of the month, please contact our customer service department, so we can check to make sure nothing is amiss with your subscription, and see if you're eligible for a replacement copy. International subscribers can receive a digital version of the magazine as a replacement if one attempt has already been made to deliver the print edition to you.
