Reversible PaperWhimsy Houses Project Part 1 by Sarah Donawerth
No one would guess that these houses were supposed to be Christmas-themed. The inspiration just wouldn’t come when asked to use greens and reds, snowflakes and pine trees. However, my creative mantra has always been “Do something and see what happens,” so I began making a distressed and rustic theme that were perfect for Valentine’s Day. No longer staring at a blank set of houses, I was so overflowing with inspiration that I decided to make the houses reversible, with a white and gold theme on the other side. Now I have two sets for the price of one and can flip them over whenever I want a fresh look on my mantel.

Reversible PaperWhimsy Houses Project Directions:
Glue sheet music to houses with gel medium.
Mix Ruby and Umber paints and brush over the houses, allowing the sheet music to show through. Let dry.
With a high grit piece of sandpaper, rough up the surface of the houses, allowing pieces of the paper to peel up.
Paint the frames of the houses with white gesso, then umber paint, allowing to dry in between each coat of paint. Drag sandpaper over the surface to reveal the white gesso layer underneath. Repeat this process on one side of the base of the houses.
Draw a heart on scratch paper, cut out, and cover with texture paste. Keep the surface thick with texture paste and do not smooth out any bumps, ridges, and streaks.
Spray the texture paste hearts with Frayed Burlap spray ink several times, allowing it to pool up in the bumps and ridges. Dry with a heat tool to keep the spray ink from soaking into the texture paste.
Glue heart to the center of the house and glue frame to front of house.
