6 Stunning Mixed-Media Jewelry Designs

When we think of jewelry, our minds tend to conjure images of metals and gemstones, but in the hands of a mixed-media artist, the possibilities are literally endless! We’ve compiled a collection of handcrafted jewelry designs from the pages of Belle Armoire Jewelry that illustrate what’s possible when you push creative boundaries. Within the following designs, an inspiring mixture of paper, paint, tin, textiles, and more come together to create stunning wearable art.

NANCY J. OVERMYER⎟ BELLE ARMOIRE JEWELRY WINTER 2024

Cyanotype printing is a process in which sunlight imprints the image of an object onto paper. In regard to her cyanotype-printed jewelry, Nancy J. Overmyer shares:

“The earrings featured here, with their variety of blue hues, were created with a wet cyanotype process, which involves watercolor paper and photo chemicals — the magic printing happens in the sun. [ … ] After the prints are made, I then choose a shape to cut from an area of the print I want to feature.”

KITTY ADAMS⎟ BELLE ARMOIRE JEWELRY SPRING 2024

For mixed-media artists, it’s all about the materials, and Kitty Adams couldn’t agree more:

“My creative process does not always begin with an end in sight; I tend to let the materials lead the way for my creations. [ … ] This piece uses reclaimed aluminum as the base, which has been textured, cut, and filed. It incorporates brass stampings, wire, and vintage papers with the words from a familiar song I recall singing as a child with my mother.”

ANNIE GODBEY⎟ BELLE ARMOIRE JEWELRY SPRING 2025

Looking for a way to calm her mind and spirit, Annie Godbey combined her interests in landscape painting and textiles to create this serene design. As Annie shares, printing an image onto fabric is only the starting point:

“As wearable art, they offer endless design possibilities depending on the images used, how you string them, whether you add beads or charms, etc. I hope they spark your own creativity … and Zen!”

LINDA BUCCI⎟ BELLE ARMOIRE JEWELRY AUTUMN 2024

As Linda Bucci explains, collage can be easily adapted to wearable art, as proven by her soldered paper necklace:

“Aside from my love of jewelry-making, I also enjoy painting and collage, and I have often pondered on how to combine all three techniques. While I was collaging a gift box, I thought about how interesting some of the patterns might be on earrings, so I gave it a go, and voilà!”

JENNIFER BLACK⎟ BELLE ARMOIRE JEWELRY SPRING 2024

The origin of Jennifer Black’s paper-mosaic approach to jewelry can be traced back to childhood. As Jennifer recalls:

“[In the] attic of my grandparents’ rambling, creaky old house [ … ] I spent many happy hours going through old letters, war ration books, photos, journals, diaries, sketchbooks, and so many yellowing sheets of paper. For years I’ve used these treasures in my collage work, creating both realistic and abstract designs. Then one day I wondered, ‘Could I create jewelry from these?’”

ELENA BRANCACCIO⎟ BELLE ARMOIRE JEWELRY SUMMER 2023

For many artists, nature is a never-ending source of inspiration. Elena Brancaccio used that inspiration to bring together various mediums in these stunning earrings. As she shares:

“In these earrings, I combined my love of nature and wearable art by creating textile collages with silk fibers and pressed flowers as unique botanical focal points. I love to connect with nature and the seasons through art. The creative process of textile collage has allowed me to connect with the earth in new and unexpected ways.”
