You Look Lovely Today Project
Artist Julie Nutting’s new book Collage Couture is packed with ample inspiration and how-to instructions so that you can learn to create your own unique collage couture pieces. Upon reading it, I was inspired to make my own fashionable work of art.
I started with a piece of plain white cardstock and used the distress stains to alter the background. You can try the larger strips as I did, or maybe polka dots or another pattern that inspires you.
Tear random strips of patterned paper from the Pretty in Pink paper pad and paper layers pack and glue the pieces on the background around the edges. I sketched the skirt onto a piece of scrap paper using a design inspired by the ones that Julie provides in the book. Cut out the skirt template and then cut the pieces out from patterned paper from the Pretty in Pink paper pad. Do the same with the torso, arms and head. For the legs, I just cut the long thin strips from the same patterned text as the arms.
Assemble all the doll pieces and glue them onto the cardstock. Use a brown marker to draw the hair, and cut a small strip of pink patterned paper to use as the belt. Over the text paper in the bottom right corner that reads “You Look Lovely Today” I add a piece of transparency (that I trimmed) from the Pretty in Pink Peek-A-Boos pack.
In the top right corner, I stamped two birds using the bird from the Birds and Nests Rubber Stamp set. Frame the collage piece and hang anywhere inspiring!
