Wonderland Gift Packaging Project by Kerri Winterstein
I’ve always loved finding ways to add a special touch to the gifts I wrap for my friends and family. There’s nothing better than someone saying they can hardly bear to open the gift because the packaging is too beautiful! There are so many simple things you can do to turn your gift packaging into something the recipient will remember just as well as the gift tucked inside. When I saw these Alice in Wonderland paper dolls, I knew they would take on a new life when added to the front of a sweetly wrapped book. I started out by wrapping a book in simple, brown paper.
I love reusing packaging materials, so I added a rolled up layer of packing paper around the center of the book. I then added one layer of the pattered crepe ribbon, a small piece of corrugated cardboard and a ribbon of seam binding to add a bit more dimension. Altering the paper dolls are very simple and can easily be modified to use whatever supplies you have on hand! I removed the bottom "stand" from the Alice paper doll by carefully cutting around the legs. I chose my favorite outfit for the doll and embellished it by gluing on a button and adding a crepe ribbon "skirt" to Alice’s dress.
The skirt was created by slightly folding a piece of crepe ribbon several times and gluing the top of it to the front of the dress. Once the dress was dry and placed on Alice, I tucked the paper doll under the ribbon on the gift! For the card, I simply folded a piece of bright cardstock in half. I used my finger to create a white cloud using Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paint. Once it was dry, I added a stamped quote from our Alice in Wonderland Famous Quotes Stamps. On the corner of the card, I tucked the crown that matched the dress I chose to place on Alice! These paper dolls can be easily altered by adding fabric, glitter, stitched elements, and more. Adding something unique to your gift packaging is the perfect way to display your creativity and spark your imagination!
