Christmas Succulent Garden Project

UPC:

We love these mini woodland trees from the Idea-ology line by Tim Holtz and know you will too! They can be altered using spray, ink, and a variety of other ways. Join our Shoppe Manager Vanessa Spencer as she adds the trees to a mini succulent garden, creating the perfect gift for that special someone this holiday season.

If you're an eco-friendly crafter, you can use an old tin you already have on hand, or find a new one. Sand it lightly and paint it with a coat of white gesso. Once the gesso has dried, paint over it with a coat of tan acrylic paint. Then, when that layer of paint has dried, add a strip of thick pink rose patterned washi around the center of the tin for a fun accent.

Add the soil to the tin and plant your succulents. Vanessa uses clippings from older, larger succulents for this project. Add one big woodland tree and two small ones, or experiment on your own with the sizes to create the look you want. Add small pebbles to cover up the soil.

To create a festive banner for your succulent garden: cut a piece of hemp twine to size, fold strips of washi tape over it, and then cut them into pennant shapes. Tie the ends of the banner to two small skewers and then insert the sticks into the soil.

*Tip: To allow your mini garden to drain water, insert several holes in the bottom of your tin using a hammer and nails before starting this project.
