Falling Back in Love with Embossing
One of the very first things I learned to do when I started rubber stamping and making cards was embossing. I was always captivated by the way the powder magically transformed. As I moved from rubber stamping into other areas of crafting, I forgot about my trusty collection of embossing powders. Then, last year I noticed more and more people posting videos on Instagram of them embossing things. There was that magic again, and I knew it was time to dust off my stash.
I really love the look of bright colors embossed onto a dark surface, and with Halloween coming up I knew I wanted to pair black gift bags with orange powder. To see how I liked the combination, I began by simply repeatedly stamping a skull and crossbones onto a black bag. Though plain, it is still a special way to gift someone a few treats or perhaps a fall-scented candle. The same can be said for the skeleton bag, which I made a little unique by mixing two colors of embossing powders together. Using a more complex stamp really showed off the colors. Finally, on a third gift bag, I layered patterned paper with a strip of vintage images, which I made a little quirky by adding masquerade masks to. To make the masks pop, I dipped them in watermark ink and then embossed them as well.
I hope seeing these inspires you to pull your powders out of your stash. You’ll quickly remember how fun embossing can be!
