Crossing Paths Project by Seth Apter
Today’s project is courtesy of Seth Apter. He is the author of “The Pulse of Mixed Media” and his work has appeared in Somerset Memories, Somerset Studio, and Somerset Apprentice.
Crossing Paths Project Directions
Start by gluing a vintage dictionary page onto a sheet of watercolor paper with gel medium.
Paint over the page using multiple colors of chalk paint. This paint creates a surface perfect for mark making with just about any pen. Be careful not to paint over any details you wish to retain in the finished piece, like the portrait in the bottom right hand corner.
Make marks all over the surface using a pencil, artist pens, and crayons.
Add more design elements using the rubber stamps and inkpads.
Color in and around the stamped images using the Big Brush pens.
Add a bit of paper collage material and the letter stickers to spell out "crossing paths."
Add additional design elements and the words "discover" and "destiny" using the stencils with chalk paint and craft sponges.
Use the white pen and Stabilo All Marking Pencil to outline and shade the letters from both the stickers and the stencils, as well as to highlight some of the marks.
Make more marks over the surface using the pencil, pens, crayons and ink pads.
Splatter a bit of the chalk paint on the surface for a finishing touch.
