5 Handcrafted Bookmarks to Help Meet Your Reading Goals

Many of us set reading goals at the beginning of a new year, either to read a certain number of books or perhaps to tackle some titles on our to-be-read lists. Why not combine your reading goals with your creative pursuits by creating artistic bookmarks? Bookmarks are an easy art project that everyone can find the time to make, and you can even rely solely on scraps from your stash. Here, we’ve complied five simple and inspiring handcrafted bookmarks from the pages of GreenCraft Magazine that are sure to get you reading in to time!

1. Wrapped With Fabric

You’re only a few supplies and mere minutes away from creating this fabric-wrapped bookmark. Simply tear long strips of fabric, wrap them around a rectangular piece of cardboard, and secure with glue. Add a tassel or some ribbon to the top, and you’re done!

2. Vintage Flair

Create a vintage-inspired placeholder by pairing a favorite rubber stamp with some scraps from your stash of vintage ephemera. Create a collage, including pieces of lace and trim, and top it all off with a lovely stamped image.

3. Marked by Nature

Eco-printing is the perfect way to capture the beauty of Mother Nature. If you have leftover eco-printed papers, transform one into a bookmark by machine-stitching around the edge and adding a stamped word or sentiment to the front.

4. Crafting With Napkins

Printed paper napkins have become a favorite among crafters, as they can add their wonderful transparent patterns to a variety of projects. For a fitting bookmark, place a single layer of paper napkin over a book page, allowing the text to show through.

5. Rusted for Reading

Rusted metal pieces can become innovative art supplies when used for mark-making. By transferring their eye-catching shapes onto paper, and adding soft colors through watercolor and ink, you’ll have a bookmark so pretty you’ll want to leave your book open.
