Like most crafters and artists, I go through phases when I buy a certain supply in excess. After being on a several-month-long stencil kick, I now have a box full of them. I like using them in my journal with spray inks as much as everyone else, but I also wanted to try some new ways to use them as well.

We recently decided to redecorate our second bedroom, which serves as a craft room and office. I’ve never focused on making my craft area look nice until recently. I wanted to find some quick projects I could hang on the wall. Just as the idea took shape in my mind, I found a stack of unused 5" x 7" canvases on a shelf. Instantly, I knew what to do. I painted each canvas with a background color. Once dry, I placed one of my favorite stencils on each canvas and applied a coat of spray paint. When I peeled the stencils away, I instantly had wall art to hang. Thanks to the help of my heat-it craft tool, both canvases combined took me less than 5 minutes to complete. If I change my mind or color scheme, I can paint over the designs and start fresh!

The other thing on my mind right now is the upcoming holiday season. Each year I pledge to put more effort into my gift-wrap, only to find myself using a roll of paper purchased from the store. I once again turned to my stencil stash and used paint, a paintbrush, and stencils to make one-of-a-kind gift-wrap. I did the same thing to make a stenciled gift tag.

If you’ve gotten bored with your stencils, or are just looking to use them more, consider putting your own spin on one of these quick and easy projects!
