Inspired by Niki Meiners’ woodburned spoons from the cover of Somerset Home Autumn 2016, this project is a fun and simple way to create a heartfelt housewarming gift, or to add a fun accent to your kitchen. The unfinished spoons are perfect for creating your own owl or woodburned design and woodburning is a great way to add a rustic touch to any project.
Wooden Spoons Project Directions:
Sketch a rough design onto each spoon while your woodburner is heating up.
For these spoons, I used the pointed woodburner tip, but feel free to experiment with the interchangeable tips to create new and exciting designs.
Outline the pencil design with your woodburner and fill in details with different tips.
Warning: Always use caution when using your woodburning tool. Use a heat-safe surface whenever using this tool, as well as using protective eyewear and clothing. Only work in a well-ventilated area. It is recommended that you use a cast iron skillet to set the tool down on when waiting for it to cool. Never leave tool unattended and always unplug the woodburning tool when not in use.
