Rustic Fall Mixed-Media Project
I was inspired to create a piece that mimicked the rustic charm of fall — burlap and burnt orange, with a pop of green. I then added some corrugated cardboard and a strip of hand-dyed ribbon to tie the piece together.
Rustic Fall Project Directions
Tear a piece of corrugated cardboard slightly smaller than the burlap panel, and then paint with gesso. Set aside to dry.
Tear a strip of Postale Tissue Wrap and layer onto the burlap panel. Glue with gel medium. Note that this may take a little time to adhere and dry, so be patient.
Distress orange Halloween Hand-Dyed tag. First, crinkle and unfold, and then spritz with Walnut Stain Distress Spray Stain. Let dry.
Layer corrugated cardboard and distressed tag; use hot glue to attach.
Stamp owl onto large grubby tag and cut out.
Create multiple leaves using washi tape and wire thread. Layer and overlap the tape onto the wire and cut out a leaf shape.
Distress the leaves and strip of tissue wrap with Vintage Photo Distress Ink Mini and a Mini Ink Blending Tool.
Wrap the leaves around the stem of the stamped owl. Adhere the owl and leaves to the background with hot glue.
Wrap hand-dyed ribbon around the burlap canvas.
Cut out label from Tim Holtz Regions Beyond Paper Stash. Stamp word onto label with black ink.
