Quick and Easy Kraft Wallet Project
The creative possibilities with Kraft Paper Fabric by Kraft-Tex are endless! This innovative material can be put through the washer and dryer, making it perfect for adding a little mixed-media charm to wearable projects. I found some interesting ideas online and thought I’d try my hand at stitching a wallet with some of the Natural Kraft Paper Fabric. With more time on my hands, I would like to attempt something more complex — like a belt, purse, or a book cover — but to start, this is a relatively quick and easy project.
To be honest, I didn’t take any specific measurements. Instead, I just used my regular clutch wallet as a template to cut out the largest piece of the design and then, with a variety of credit cards, I was able to gauge the dimensions for the pockets. When complete, the largest portion of the wallet should measure approximately 6–½ x 8–¼”. For the pockets, you will need four rectangles that are about 2 x 8–¼”.
Once all of your pieces have been cut out, you can layer the smaller rectangles onto the main piece. Make sure everything is lined up and then carefully stitch the pieces together. It’s a good idea to actually put some cards in the wallet as you’re stitching to ensure that there is ample room for them to slide in and out. You don’t want the pockets to be too tight.
Now that the clutch wallet is done, the real fun begins! I decided to add a strip of our paint-splashed ribbon along the outer edge, and then I stamped it with a love quote stamp from Dina Wakley’s Collage Hearts set. For a bold look, I used black StazON ink. Finally, to secure the wallet, I wrapped a piece of hand-dyed stream ribbon around it. You can add more or less embellishments; your imagination is the limit.
Create one of these quick and easy wallets for yourself, or for an artsy friend.
