Bye Bye Birdie Mixed-Media Pillow Project
Start by laying your pillow form onto a flat surface. Slip a piece of cardboard inside the pillow form to make sure that paint does not bleed through. I like to loosely sketch my design onto a piece of paper before I begin any project, in order to ensure placement and color combinations.
Using a ruler, draw the stitches onto the pillow form in pencil. Next, using Dina Wakley’s new cling stamps, stamp Scribbly Birds and Textures onto the pillow form using black permanent ink, gesso, and acrylic paint. Allow all ink and paint to dry for a couple hours or, to speed up the process, use a heat-gun until everything is dry to the touch. Thread a needle with scrapper’s floss and add two rows of stitches, following your pencil marks. Apply gesso to a small burlap square, and let dry. Stamp the bird sentiment onto a scrap of muslin, cut out a square, layer with the painted burlap square, and hand-stitch to the pillow with scrapper’s floss.
