“Many of my ideas start while cleaning my desk from a previous project. It’s a perpetual rhythm — like breathing: I inhale, concentrate, create, make my studio look a mess, forget to eat, forget appointments, and forget about the world around me. When my work is done, I exhale. Suddenly, I notice that there’s a world around me, I’m starting, I have friends and family who need my attention, and I’ve even managed to forget an appointment with my dentist or something equally important. Then I realize it’s time to clean up the clutter that has evolved around me.

Sweeping the desk serves a double purpose. On one hand, it gives me the opportunity to reorganize my material, take stock over the situation, and make space for new projects. On the other hand, the space-clearing process functions like a mental preparation for the next flash of inspiration and activity….”
