According to Greek mythology, Persephone was taken by Hades to the Underworld as his bride, making her Queen of the Underworld. She mourned the loss of her world until she was able to return at the beginning of Spring. This story seemed like a fitting tale for the coming Halloween season, so this assemblage doll celebrates this myth and the emotions of mourning. For this project, I also challenged myself to create a monochromatic project using only black and a very dark grey. The end result compliments the Halloween motif well, but also adds a level of sophistication and elegance that can be made any time of year. Read the rest of this entry »

There is one Fall tradition that I remember more than any other. When the air gets colder and the leaves start to change, my mom starts brewing wassail for everyone to drink. It fills the whole house with the smell of cloves, cinnamon, and warm cider, and reminds me of holiday parties from years past. For this project, I created these orange spice wassail soaps so that I could recreate that scent memory whenever I wanted. My gal pals and I threw an amazing tie dyeing party a few weeks ago and we’ve been itching to get together ever since for another crafting party. It’s a time to hang out, chat about life, and make something new.
