Somerset Life aims to demonstrate how easy it is to add a touch of beauty to our daily lives, whether it is through a simple craft project, or an inspiring essay that shares how to find the beauty that already exists. Our mission is simple: make the ordinary extraordinary. For those looking to be a part of this bestselling publication, we have a number of ways to do so. We are currently looking for artwork submissions in the following categories:.

Washi Tape

Now that the washi tape trend has died down a little, it’s time to bring it back to life. If you’re anything like me, you have a huge stash of decorative tapes. Some might have never been touched! Add a strip or two to a journal for a little extra something, or cover your entire desk with it. Send us your most clever ideas for possible publication in our January 2016 Issue.

Note Card Round-Up

It’s obvious that we are big fans of snail mail and real paper letters. When we received Connie Fong’s vintage, yet modern note cards, we knew we wanted to see what our other readers could do with the idea. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to design your own set of note cards. Make a few for yourself or make a set to give a friend. Stamp, paint, stitch to your heart’s content

Deadline: August 15, 2015

As the leading mixed-media publication, Somerset Studio aims to share the latest tips, tricks, and techniques being used in the art community, as well as share tales of creativity through essays. Each issue has a selected theme that we provide to give artists inspiration for their work, but we also accept submissions that do not follow a selected theme. All submission samples should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief as outlined in our Submission Guidelines. Our current theme submissions are as follows:

Laguna Teal Challenge color tile

Laguna Teal

As some of you may know, our Stampington & Company headquarters are located in Laguna Hills, California. For those of us here in Orange County, the color for our next challenge is one we know well, and we’re calling it, Laguna Teal. It’s the color reflected off of the ocean just a few miles away from our offices, it’s the color that highlights the sky of a summer twilight, and it’s a color we’d like to share with you. For the January/February 2016 issue ofSomerset Studio, we would like to see how you can incorporate this color in your mixed-media artwork. Whether it is an art journal, a collage, or an assemblage, we can’t wait to see what you come up with.

For the Birds

There is just something about birds: Simply their presence can be so uplifting, and they evoke so much imagery and symbolism. For this challenge, we would like you to create cards featuring rubber stamping that incorporates birds in some way. While we love little birds like sparrows and robins, this challenge extends to other kinds of birds that are not as common. You may want to create cards that revolve around quails, ravens, owls, or even flamingos! Perhaps you own a favorite bird stamp, die, patterned paper, decorative tape, or embellishment — now is the time to see it take flight, and be sure to use your supplies in a unique way to create unusual or different results. (Please do not use any material, such as feathers found in the wild, from animals protected by law.) Send us your best submissions by August 15, 2015 for possible inclusion in the Winter 2016 issue.
