Fiskars New Amplify Shears Collection Giveaway!

As an avid card maker, there’s nothing that urks me more than working with finicky, dull scissors on my projects. It’s like trying to slice an apple with a butterknife – the entire process is exhausting, messy, and never quite yields the desired result. Luckily it’s also completely preventable by choosing the proper utensil.

Fiskars Web

It comes as no surprise at how mesmerized I was this morning when I found two gigantic boxes of the new Fiskars Amplify Shears™ collection laying on my desk. Was this some sort of mistake or did the craft fairy visit last night?! I learned that Fiskars had sent several gifts from their new collection to Stampington’s Art Department as a thoughtful gesture for us to try them out.

Scissors 5 001

I didn’t delay for one moment to take them on a test drive. Each snip felt like I was melting through butter on a perfectly smooth path to creative freedom. As I cut, contoured, and maneuvered my way toward scissor heaven, I was overjoyed at how easy it was to cut through a variety of mediums and materials.

This giveaway has ended. Thank you for participating

If you’re stumped on dreaming up a project using Fiskars scissors, check out our lovely guest blogger’s bright bookmark DIY idea using her Amplify Mixed Media Shears:

Emma Jeffrey’s Colorful Bookmark DIY:

“The new Amplify Mixed Media Shears by Fiskars are the perfect tool for tackling thicker materials, allowing you to incorporate them into all your creative projects.”

– Emma Jeffreys, Fiskars Featured Artist

Cutting plywood
To make these colorful, decorative bookmarks, cut a sheet of birch plywood into 6” x 1.5” strips. Though I love the look of unfinished wood, I wanted to add a pop of color so I picked some summery neon washi tapes to add layered stripes along the edges.

Twisting wire

To create the wire words, print out ‘love’ and ‘books’ in your favorite cursive text and use it as a guide to twist a cut length of 20 gauge silver wire into shape. Secure the wire to the back of the bookmark with a piece of washi tape to hold it in place.

Baker's twine
To finish, punch a hole in the top of the bookmarks with a handpunch and create a tassel made from colorful baker’s twine through the hole.

Finished bookmarks

Now you can save your spot in style and add even more incentive to open the pages of your favorite story or Stampington magazine with these cute and quirky bookmarks!

These scissors will need a holster. I could use the mixed media shears to cut embroidery screens that I am using in my mixed media suburbia series and sill cut scrapbook paper. A dream for sure. Finally one pair of scissors for uninterrupted creative activity. I am looking forward to winning and using. I’ve shared the blog post via FB. Thank you for the opportunity.

  9. Melissa Kennedy says:

Shared on FB; I could work wonders with those mixed media shears; I’ve been looking for something that will cut through the covers of some old books I want to modify. Thanks for the chance!

  10. Joanne Hughes says:

I NEED the mixed media shears desperately! I only do off the page stuff and need a good quality, reliable tool for all my work. Also the older I get the less strength I have in my hands so these are the perfect tools for everything from cutting through heavy cardstock for journal covers to trimming the bakers twine and delicate ribbons.

  11. Mixed media shears would be awesome to have. I’m a doll maker and use scissors for cutting paper patterns and material. Of course, regular scissors dull faster. Thank you.

  12. ren says:

I really really need the mixed media shears. I bought a pair of heavy duty shears at the hardware and they really don’t work well. I need the wirecutter, transparency option badly. Sharing on FB. Thanks!!

  13. Gail says:

Although I am primarily a fabric person, I would love the mixed media shears. I’m all set with good sewing scissors, but I don’t have any good craft scissors. I wouldn’t hesitate to start the art journal/ idea sketchbook I want to keep if I knew I could cut anything easily, especially chipboard and plastic for masks for spraying/misting color!

  14. Renee Gaillardetz says:

Wow thank you for this giveaway. I would love either pair of these. I have been planning a new star quilt to do this fall. And I have so many mixed media projects started and planned. New art journals. And a paper mâché house for my deck of Soul Cards.

  15. Jen says:

Wow, that is one amazing pair of scissors…I could run out of time listing all of the uses they would be great for.

    Jen

  16. Irma P. says:

  25. Charlotte says:

I would love to own the fabric set, wanna know why???? Because I sadly am down to only 1 pair of fabric shears because I keep grabbing scissors to cut other things! You know, oh, it’s just a bit of paper(or a pattern) or it’s just Mod Podge that got on the scissors-then you wonder why they won’t cut fabric anymore. I like to have several pairs of fabric scissors so 1 could be at the serger, 1 at the sewing machine and 1 with the cutting board. These sound fabulous!

  26. Judy says:

wow Yes I could use a pair of the new shears..I make dolls, cards, paint, sew, all kinds of crafts plus the grandkids love my art room we have such fun making pretty projects and great memories….they look very interesting and new adventures…

  33. Who doesn’t love scissors? Of course I would love and will need both but I’ll pick the mixed media. I am always ruining regular scissors trying to cut heavier items so this will be perfect. I recently bought hill tribe fabric in Vietnam and Laos and they are quite thick with all the layers. I am going to make jewelry and will need good scissors to cut through all the layers. Or or would the fabric scissors be better for this? Told you I would need both! A great contest! Thanks

  34. Karen Schroeder says:

Fantastic projects! I’d love to win the mixed-media shears! Thanks for the chance!

    Thanks!!!xx

  37. Ok, shared on facebook, this is where we were waiting on for a long time. When I dont win , I sure gonna buy them both. I need the fabric scissors to cut my cheesecloth and other thin fabric and the mixed media to cut layers of paint. I would make embellishment from painted surfaces, and that is hard to cut!
When i have to make a choice for now: the mixed media!

  38. Ann J says:

Mix-media, but both would be nice. Thank you for the offer. I want to have a homemade Christmas including a chipboard gingerbread house that I can put out every year. Make ornaments and try to make stockings. I’m worried that mine would look like something out Dr. Seuss, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

Thank you again and good luck to all!
    Carolyn

  41. Mary says:

I’ve had my eye on these awesome shears. Would love making my own chipboard embellishments with these – I can see they would be capable of cutting intricate shapes out of chipboard which you could not do with regular scissors. I love to make books using chipboard and these look like just the ticket to creating one of a kind chipboard embellishments to add to the book.

  42. Teresa Mahieu says:

I have so many uses for the mixed media scissors. I am a Cub Scout leader and want to make willow branch wreaths for Christmas gifts with the boys this year. I need scissors that can cut threw anything quickly.

the mixed media would be great for making all the mixed media decorations for celebrations!! i love making paper crowns , banners, paper mache ballons! the ideas are limitless!

  47. Sheri says:

It is so hard to choose and ultimately I’m sure I will own both — as my husband says (you) can never have too many knives, I believe crafters can never have too many pairs of cutting tools. The mixed media would probably be my first choice as it would be the most versatile for many different projects. My daughter and I have been crafting together since she was very small and using mostly repurposed items, but these scissors would make a difference in creating many projects. The newest project we are tackling is redecorating her bedroom and creating an inspiration wall using repurposed items.

  48. RMarijaR says:

Mixed media shears would be a great addition to my arsenal of tools!! I spread out my stuff and then randomly begin pulling out various scraps and embellishments. There’s no telling where my creative Muse decides to take me!

  56. kathyS says:

Endless possibility in the mixed media arena. Also useful to me for cutting thin, baked polymer clay sheets into detailed shapes.

  57. Jeannie says:

Talk about timely! Last night I threw my scissors down in disgust last night when they chewed rather than cut some card stock. I could use either pair, but the mixed media would be a fantastic start. I am helping my niece decorate a nursery for her first babe and my first great niece/nephew. Good scissors would make the project so much less frustrating.

  58. Marilyn says:

OMG! I would absolutely LOVE the Fiskars Amplify Shears. I’ve tried cutting balsa & birchwood plywood but I just ended up with a disaster. 60. Sandra Cook says:

My bags full of material scraps are yelling at me to use them. So my vision is to make a wall hanging mixed media quilt with them. Starting with 3 panels across and later adding more attached to the bottom. The Fiskars fabric scissors are perfect for cutting the pieces but the mixed media scissors are perfect for arranging the pieces since they will be glued instead of sewed. So I could use either one. Can’t wait to get started. Thanks for being my muse!

  79. Mary Wetmore says:

I make recyclables into books using everything I can from our bins and sometimes I just can’t manage getting them cut to the right size. The mixed media scissors would be a wonderful boon to my creative process. If they also cut thin gauge metal I will be haunting the stores until I find them!

I have been wanting to use balsa wood or a similar wood material to create a small, rustic cabin (3-D) to sit on the mantle in our mountain house.

Emma Jeffrey’s Colorful Bookmark DIY:

“The new Amplify Mixed Media Shears by Fiskars are the perfect tool for tackling thicker materials, allowing you to incorporate them into all your creative projects.”
