Although we've created one prompt per month, don't feel pressured or force yourself to respond to it that month if you're not feeling it. If you want to journal about January's prompt in March, do it! Make this project your own in whatever ways it helps you flex your creative muscles.

Keep Taking Chances — A Monthly Art Journal Project Directions

Now, let's create your own art journal, so you can carry it along with you no matter where you are.

1. Inside Page

Start with the inside page first, with January in mind.

Embellish the first page of a large Moleskine journal with a scrap of vintage book text, glue down with gel medium.

Use a foam brush to dry brush gesso over the drying page.

Tear a colorful strip of paper from an Art Pop card and glue to the side of the page with gel medium.

Use a lid to outline six circles using a Ranger Fude Ball pen.

Whole punch decorative paper from Project Life cards, and glue circles inside the outlined circles. Use your finger to add a light coat of gesso over the circles.

Randomly add yellow and turquoise paint.

Stamp month onto extra-small grubby tag, and attach to the top of the page with a mini clothespin.

Add Small Talk stickers.

2. Front Cover
Embellish the front cover with gesso, then add yellow and turquoise paint.

Outline the circle with a jar and Ranger Fude Ball pen.

Add scraps from an Art Pop and Project Life card, along with book text to coordinate with the inside page.

Punch dots from book text and outline with a black pen.

Stamp inspirational phrase across the front cover with black ink.

Add doodles.
