Collaborative Red Journal
Somerset Studio - Mar/Apr 02

The cover of Beth Cote's journal announces you will be "seeing red".

Beth's square cutouts reveal a colorful small scale pattern underneath.

Claudette Hunter cleverly designed a freeform cutout to serve as a frame for a yellow matchbook with a saucy red logo.

Claudette Hunter, an American living in Yokohama, Japan is an altered book artist. She is the moderator of the Altered Books List, an online community of more than 1,450 from 16 countries. For more information go to: www.groups.yahoo.som/group/alteredbooks.

Artist Nancy Curry layers inventive techniques to emphasize the Red theme of the collaborative journal.
The theme goes International with a list of countries and the appropriate translation of the word red on each tag.
"Spatters" in rich red tones move the eye across the pages.

On this richly detailed insert, Nancy lists shades of red on tabs then adds a red border with see-through holes.

Text on Red Symbolism provides factual information while providing another design element.
