Project of the Month
Bells of Liberty Banner
By Diane Michioka

Select the vintage patterned Campania sheet from the 7gypsies Romantique Paper Pack (5SG-ROMANTIQUE).

First use the E-Z Walnut Tintz -Whitewash (5FB-FS121) to add an overall tint of white to the sheet of Campania paper; let dry. Then use Acrylic Paint Dabber-Snow Cap (5AA-ALD22671) to highlight white streaks on same "whitewashed" sheet; let dry.

Use Cricut Die-cut machine with Jasmine font to create 2 1/2" Shadow Capital letters "HAPPYFOURTH" out of silver blue scrapbook paper, and twelve 4" diamonds out of 1sheet of Railway Journey and half a sheet of Colonial Revival.  OR print out on regular paper, letters at selected font & height.  Temporarily adhere to silver blue paper, right side up and hand cut letters. Print out diamond template and do the same on red paper.

Spray adhesive to the letters and sprinkle with Silvery Moon Vintage Glass Glitter Shards (5AG-900), repeat until letters are fully encrusted.

Use Snow Cap acrylic dabber to add white accents to red die-cut diamonds.  Accent each tip with a dot of Platinum Stickles Glitter Glue (5RR-SGG09696).  Outline entire diamond with dots drawn with a black tip marker.

Select the red Colonial Revival, Railway Journey, & blue Charoles River sheets from the Daisy D's Beacon Hill Paper Collection (5DD-BEACON).

Using a straight edge, tear red, white and blue sheets into roughly torn 12" strips (approximate widths for red –  5/8", whitewashed – 1", blue – 1 1/4".) Use Janome Sew Petite (5JA-SEWPETITE) or Sew Mini Machine (5JA-SEWMINI) set on medium zigzag stitch to sew a strip of red paper along the length to blue paper strip, slightly overlapping.  Continue by attaching whitewashed strip to blue strip, then a red strip to the whitewashed strip.  Continue until you have two each of red, blue and whitewashed strips, then end with a red strip.  You should have a sewn "sheet" of paper approximately 5 1/4" x 12".  Repeat to create 2 full sewn sheets, plus another 5 1/4" x 4" sheet (for one last flag.)

Find a black & white vintage map of the United States and copy onto cream cardstock.  Adhere to back of sewn paper to strengthen.  Mark center of one 12" side of sewn paper.  Mark 2" from center on either side of center mark (this will be the 4" base of a flag).  Mark center of other 12" side of sewn paper.  Mark 4" from center on either side of center mark.  Draw diagonal line from second center mark to the opposite side, to marks at 2" from the center (this triangle creates the first flag).  Then draw diagonal lines from those marks back to the other side, to the marks at 4" from the center (creating two more flags); and finally, draw diagonal lines from those marks to the opposite side corners (creating the last two flags.)   You will be able to create 5 flags from each sheet (plus one extra from the 5 1/4" x 4" sheet) – 11 total.

Adhere glittered letters to center of red diamond cut outs using Designer Dries Clear Glue (5AG-DDC02).  Adhere red diamond cut outs to top of flags, with two-thirds of the diamond overlapping.

Using the Micro Dot Punch (5EC-61002), create two holes on opposite side of each flag, place a silver brad in hole, wrap floral wire around one brad, string several Silver Jingle Bells (5DC90-3115) across wire, wrap wire around second brad.  Spiral ends of wire around a toothpick to create curly-cues.

Attach silver garland to top corners of each flag with staples. String letters to create banner: "HAPPY FOURTH".
