The vintage hinge boxes by Melissa Frances (5HH-JA812) are a great way to store jewelry or simple treasures. I decided to fill this one with some of my favorite supplies that inspire me!
Start with a large hinge box (5HH-JA812). Use a light brown acrylic paint (5AA-ABD22435) and dab the paint very lightly on the outside of each compartment. Use a dry cloth to very lightly rub the paint. The idea is for it to look “messy” so don’t worry about painting the whole area as you want to see some of the ivory color around the edges.
To decorate the outside areas of the compartments I used some vintage paper lace that I had from a French Flea Market paper bundle by Corey Amaro (these are offered to our Postscript email subscribers in our French Flea Market sales that we offer regularly). We do have a selection of other one-of-a-kind French items in The Shoppe that you can see by clicking here.
I tore the lace carefully into strips and then glued them onto the box with a liquid adhesive (5AG-DDC02).
For the top of the box I use the rose patterned paper from the Basic Grey Periphery collection (5BG-CPIP924). Tear the edges and ensure that the rose image is going to be front and center for when you place it on top of the box. Curl all the torn edges in slightly. Distress the edges using brown versa mark ink (Umber or Bark) to give it an aged look. Glue on top of the box with a strong liquid adhesive (5AG-DDC02).
Cut smaller pieces of the same Basic Grey cardstock (5BG-CPIP924) down to size to fit into the compartments of the box and then fill the box with your favorite buttons, flowers, trinkets, or vintage treasures!!
