Stamped & Painted Portfolio
by Gaylynn Stringham

Paint and stamp this gorgeous carryall with art stamps, acrylics, and a papiér maché portfolio from The Shoppe at Somerset! Gaylynn Stringham of Victorville, California, shows how easy it is to make a fashion statement while toting your favorite decorative papers, scrapbook pages, rubber stamps, inkpads, and other accessories. These portfolios are roomy enough to hold an ample selection of papers and other craft necessities, and they can be decorated so beautifully you'll be proud to carry them anywhere.

Materials
Tassel, Art stamps, Rub ’n Buff, Gold charm, Hot-melt glue, Gold satin cord, Embossing (heat) tool, E6000 jewelry adhesive, Krylon matte finish spray, Grecian Gold Rub ’n Buff, Krylon 18Kt. gold leafing pen, Papiér maché portfolio from The Shoppe at Somerset, Aleene’s Enhancers: glazing medium, liquid masking tape, and Aleene’s Premium-Coat acrylic paints (yellow-ochre, deep-beige, black)

Technique
1. Base-coat the entire portfolio with yellow-ochre acrylic paint.
2. Pencil in a line approximately 1-1 4ý from the outside edge of the entire portfolio.
3. On a piece of waxed paper, mix glazing medium with deep-beige paint and then with black paint, keeping the two colors separate. Paint the center out to the penciled line with deep-beige acrylic paint. Using a damp sponge, pick up the paint in the center, leaving the edges darker. Work quickly blending the paints, and repeat this process with the black paint. Allow the paint to dry completely.
4. Apply liquid masking tape to the penciled line. Allow it to dry completely.
5. Using a foam brush, paint the edge and sides black. When completely dry, stamp the diamond pattern down the front edges. When dry, draw a line with the gold leafing pen where the black and the beige paints meet.
6. Coat with two or three layers of Krylon Matte Finish spray.
7. Replace the handle with a gold satin cord.
8. Using the same paints, dab them over the charm then rub Grecian Gold Rub ’n Buff over the top. Cut a small piece off of a black hot-melt glue stick. Using a heat tool, melt it in the center of the charm. While the glue is hot add an initial bead. Apply Rub ’n Buff to the edges of bead.
9. Attach a tassel to the portfolio top using E6000 jewelry adhesive, making sure the charm is centered and glued over the tassel top.
