Classic Characters Paper Dolls

Vintage inspired paper dolls of your favorite “classic” characters.

The art of creating Paper Dolls is historic and classic. The first paper dolls ever manufactured was by S&J Fuller, London, in 1810. Paper dolls have existed as long as there has been paper and creative people to apply images to it. Our collection is a fine selection of timeless characters from a bygone era.

Movie Star Mobile
By Angela Hoffman

In preparation: choose two embroidery hoop insides (the part that doesn't have the adjustment screw) in two different sizes, paint in desired colors. Remove all the tabs from the paper doll clothes and glue onto decorative papers (5BG-PER782). Select your word from glitter chipboard letters. Use your favorite method to punch holes on the upper and lower portion of each letter and choose some of the “doo dads” for extra decoration and punch holes in those as well. Do not punch holes in the ones you want to add to the hoops. To create the mobile base you will need to have something that you can hang it from during construction. Use a cup hook screwed into the ceiling and hang a piece of fishing line at a level where you can hook the mobile on and work. Start with the larger hoop, secure a piece of fishing line to one point of the hoop, thread it through a small plastic ring and then loop it through one more time (do not tie..it needs to be able to be adjusted), secure to the opposite side of the hoop allowing the line to have some length so it hangs down a bit from the plastic ring. Do this once more on the other two sides creating a 4 point hanging system, adjust the second one to be the same length as the first. Tie all ends securely as you are doing this. The second hoop is created the same way, only making it hang a couple of inches lower than the first. Tie all of your letters and a Mini Movie Clapboard in a long piece and secure to the plastic ring, allowing it to hang in the center. Now the most fun comes: arrange your paper doll pieces around the two rings. Use 3 strings of a combination of paper doll element and Twinkle Type “doo dad” and sparkly beads hot glued onto the fishing line and then tie onto the hoops distributing the weight evenly. You will have to adjust the balance as you add each one. Using hot glue add Twinkle Type “doo dads” to the hoops.

Paper Doll Boudoir
By Angela Hoffman

Using a cigar box as your base, cover the inside and outside with various coordinating papers. Cut a dowel the width of the box and glue inside creating a clothing pole. Create a curtain by measuring the sides of the box, cut a piece of paper that size and then cut out the inside in a curtain shape, create little tabs on the back and glue to the face of the box. Glue little fashion doll hangers onto the back of the paper doll clothing, hang from pole inside the box. Glue vintage lace along the top and embellish above the curtain. Using pop dots attach your paper doll to the lid of the cigar box, and a piece of the clothing on the opposite side, embellish with various die cut paper flowers and paper elements. Add an inspirational word from your favorite rub on collection!
