WHEN YOU WERE A BABY
by Debra Cooper
Artist Debra Cooper created this piece using a photo transferred onto canvas of her late father when he was 3 months old. “My father, the second of three children, was prayed for and received with great joy, especially by his mother,” Debra writes. “My father’s older sister, an exceptionally beautiful child, was the favorite of the whole family. So when my father was born, my grandmother declared that he would belong to her alone. Never was there a child so loved and wanted as my father was by both of his parents. And he adored his mother and faithfully cared for her until the day he died. My grandmother would lose both of her sons as fairly young men, but to me, this photo captures the promise and hope of childhood and the delight of a new mother.” For details on how Debra created her shadowbox, please see the Sample Instructions.
