Antique Game
Hieroglyphical Signatures is a reproduction of a mid-nineteenth century antique game created by J. T. Hart, circa 1850. A favorite amusement during the 19th century was the creation and deciphering of rebus (symbol or picture) puzzles. The portofolio consists of six individual sheets of picture puzzles containing musicians, vocalists, chorus singers and theatrical performers, such as Beethoven, Chopin and Shakespeare. Historians will find this game most challenging while the exquisite drawings will provide inspiration to those with a creative eye!

Risque Beauties Shrine
by Mona Gettmann

Step 1) Cut off the cover of a Small Paper Mache Book (5DCBOOKSM). Trim off ¼” of the book box’s spine edge. Cut a Large Slide Mailer (5PS-SLIDE4) in half. Cut out a triangle-shaped panel from the front panel of the slide mailer. Cut the inside panel of the slide mailer in half to create doors for shrine.
Step 2) Cover the two door panels with panels cut from FG & Co. Antique Game Hieroglyphic Signatures (5FG-CBHS).
Step 3) Paint the back side of the doors and both sides of the book box panel with Pearlescent Magenta Lumiere Acrylic (5JQ-573 - Discontinued). Sponge the panels with pearlescent pastel pink ink. Let dry. Paint one side of the triangle panel with black acrylic. Paint the edges of all the pieces with black acrylic. Let dry.
Step 4) Cut out additional panels from Hieroglyphic Signatures package and cards according to side and inside dimensions of the book box. Cut out a text panel from one of the signature’s cards and a triangular panel from the pink patterned portion of the package. Attach the triangle to the reverse side of the black triangle panel. Swipe thinned Lumiere across the panels, as shown. Wipe off excess paint. Stamp Carnevale (S7120) with Jet Black StazOn Ink (5TS-BLACK) on the pink patterned panel and Venezia (S7118) on the pink side of the triangle panel. Glue the panels to the inside and sides of the book box. Wait to glue the triangle panel.
Step 5) Using Diamond Glaze (5JK-DIAMOND2), attach four Glass Slides (5FSC-SLIDES) to images from Risqué Beauties Wrapping Paper (5FG-WPRB). Let dry. Attach Page Pebbles - Rectangle Small Blank (5MA-22746 - Discontinued) to the numbers and suits from each image. Trim off the excess paper from the slides and page pebbles. Attach each slide to an additional slide. Cover the edges of the slides with Copper Foil Tape (5TAPE-CPR14 - Discontinued). Attach the trimmed page pebbles to black card stock and trim closely. Attach the black panels to the slides, as shown.

Construction of shrine: Randomly stamp Medium Musical Notes (R3111) with Jet Black StazOn ink on the painted side of the doors and the back panel of the book box. Attach the slides to the cavities in the prepared door panels. Cut out a figure from Risque Beauties Playing Cards (5FG-PCRB) and mount to the inside panel of the book box with foam tape. Attach several small rhinestones from Black Precious Finds (5EK-SPPF12) along the top edge of the text panel inside the book box. Attach two large circles from Epoxy Stickers – Beautiful (5CI-11078), Epoxy Stickers – Masterpiece (5CI-11079) to the pink card stock portion of the Hieroglyphic Signatures package and trim the edges. Sponge black ink along the edges of the circles. Attach the circles and lengths of black ribbon to the inside panel of the book box, as shown. Attach black beaded trim from Black Ruby Collage Card (5FLCCBR - Discontinued) to the trimmed spine edge and the bottom edge of the triangle panel. Punch out three large circles and two triangles from black card stock. Sponge pastel pink ink on the circles and triangles. Attach the pieces to the front of the two doors, creating clubs. Cut out two images from the Risqué Wrapping Paper and attach to the front of the doors. Sponge Pearlescent Magenta Lumiere and Jet Black StazOn ink along the edges of the doors, letting each one dry before applying the second color. Attach the doors to the front of the book box with Karen Foster -Nickel Hinges 1 (5KF-00600) and Silver Heart Brads (5MA-23549). Embellish the shrine and the triangle with black rhinestones. Glue the triangle to the top of the book box to create a roof effect. Sponge the edges of two Risque Beauties Playing Cards with Pearlescent Magenta Lumiere. Let dry. Attach the cards to black card stock and trim closely. Attach a prepared text panel, rhinestones, a epoxy sticker, and the two cards to the back of the book box, as shown.
