COVER ART:
Kerry Howard Schmidt perfectly captures the spirit of carefree childhood days spent playing dress-up and make-believe in her papier-mâché art dolls. Read more about her whimsical take on art on page 28.

The Summer 2007 issue of Art Doll Quarterly has rolled off the press and is available on newsstands now! Inside, you’ll find:
Melissa Tereck pushes the artistic boundaries of papier-mâché in creating highly defined and expressive characters that only can be described as “Fairy Tale Confections.”

Lisa Lichtenfels is well known for creating stunningly realistic soft sculptures, some as small as five inches while others are more than five feet tall. Her secret? Using cheap pantyhose that she dyes to achieve various flesh tones.

An artist since she was a youngster, Angela Dugan ran a portrait business as a teenager. Little did she know that her drawing expertise would lead her to portrait doll making with polymer clay.

Kerry Howard-Schmidt follows in the footsteps of craftswomen in her family as a maker of folk-art-style, papier-mâché dolls captured in poses that reflect the playful antics of her four children.

Mixed-media artist extraordinaire Sandra Evertson shares her Good Luck Talisman by offering her technique and free artist’s ephemera to photocopy.

Kazuko Miyai, founder of the super-light Clay Craft by Deco, and her daughter Yukiko Miyai-Mackay are on a mission to introduce doll makers to this incredibly versatile air-drying clay.

Doll artists around the country rise again to Pamela Armas’ gypsy doll challenge with marvelous characters in fabric and clay.

Plus challenge dolls from the Central New York doll is Art Guild, Susan Degeneres’ lively garden witch, theatrical rod puppets, and Susan Bellamy’s Scribbles, a quick method of making doll templates.
